There is no doubt that we love art, in any shape and form. Today we explore a part of the art world that doesn’t get too much attention – Wood Art! Everyone has made something from wood at one point in their lives (I would assume, even if its just something small from a school project). Deep within us lives a crafty person who likes to make little wooden things, if you have one jumping out of you, here are some great things to use for inspiration in your wood working journey!<\/p>\n

What Is Wood Carving?<\/h2>\n

Wood art comes from a form of Wood Carving – this is what wikipedia has to say about this<\/p>\n

Wood carving<\/a> (xyloglyphy) is a form of working wood by means of a cutting tool (knife) in one hand or a chisel by two hands or with one hand on a chisel and one hand on a mallet, resulting in a wooden figure or figurine, or in the sculptural ornamentation of a wooden object. The phrase may also refer to the finished product, from individual sculptures, to hand-worked mouldings composing part of a tracery.<\/p>\n

Some of the finest extant examples of early wood carving are from the Middle Ages in Italy and France, where the typical themes of that era were Christian iconography. In England many complete examples remain from the 16th and 17th century, where oak was the preferred medium in this case<\/p>\n

Figural carving seems to have been widespread. The carving to represent one’s god in a tangible form finds expression in numberless ways. The early carver, and, for that matter, the native of the present day, has found a difficulty in giving expression to the eye, and at times has evaded it by inlaying this feature with colored material.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

As kids – a wooden toy was the simplest form of a toy you could get, and sometimes those were super fun! Especially when the toy was creative and imaginative, or created in an innovative way.
