These days, it\u2019s a no brainer for businesses and organizations to have a presence on social media.\u00a0 It\u2019s basic marketing. According to the Global Digital Report 2019<\/a>, there were 3.48 billion worldwide social media users.\u00a0 The most popular social media platforms are Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

A well run social media function can increase visibility, build trust, increase conversions and ultimately, increase your bottom line.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The business case for social media is clear, so why might you want to build your own personal brand through social media?\u00a0<\/p>\n

You want to establish yourself as a thought leader in your field but remain somewhat independent from your present job role.\u00a0<\/p>\n

If you do change roles in the future, you have already built your reputation and credibility on your social media accounts that can follow you no matter where your career takes you.\u00a0 By being a respected influencer in your area of expertise, you can also improve your career prospects too.\u00a0<\/p>\n

There are so many social media platforms to choose from these days, it would be a full-time job just to create content and manage them. Instead of running many accounts poorly, choose one or two to concentrate on and focus your efforts on building these.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Do your research and find out which channels your target audience use.\u00a0 There\u2019s no point focussing all of your efforts on Facebook if your audience uses Instagram.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Once you\u2019ve found out which platforms your target audience use, take it a step further and get involved.\u00a0 Find the relevant hashtags on Twitter and Instagram, join groups on Facebook and LinkedIn. You can start to build your credibility and engagement within these groups.<\/p>\n
