Over the past couple of months, the world has been gripped by a pandemic. At the start of 2020, we couldn\u2019t have predicted how quickly and how dramatically our lives would be changing. Social distancing measures have been put in place to slow the spread of coronavirus and Covid-19 and many of us are no longer working in offices and are instead working at home. Of course, hopefully these changes won\u2019t last forever. But this is a big upheaval and many of us are struggling to get to grips with this new way of working. This isn\u2019t all too surprising. Offices are bustling spaces where we can quickly and easily communicate with those we\u2019re working with – we can chat over desks, call meetings in meeting rooms<\/a> and chat through work systems. We usually have someone over our shoulder making sure we\u2019re doing what we\u2019re meant to be doing and reminding us of projects they might have seen us skip over. Now, we\u2019re operating relatively independently and outside of a professional environment and atmosphere. But not to worry. You can still be productive. You can still hit your deadlines. You can still thrive in your work. You\u2019re just going to have to focus on making working remotely work for you! Here are a few different steps you can take to make the entire process a little easier for yourself!<\/p>\n

Stick to Your Working Hours<\/h3>\n

When you\u2019re working remotely<\/a>, it can often be difficult to separate the professional and the personal. Don\u2019t let work overrun your life. You still need your time to yourself! Once the clock hits five o\u2019clock – or whatever time your shift finishes – call it a day and close your laptop. You wouldn\u2019t drive back to work at 9pm and start picking up extra work with no extra pay if you were still in your office. Treat working from home in the same manner!<\/p>\n

First, and perhaps most importantly, it\u2019s absolutely essential that you maintain a sense of routine in your life. Our usual working days revolve around routine. We get up early, we get showered and dressed, we eat breakfast and we leave for work. We get to work and schedule our day, taking set breaks and getting our work done. We head home, do whatever else we have to do and then go to bed at a set time so we get sufficient sleep to power us through the day ahead. You should apply a similar routine to your day when working from home. It will make sure you\u2019re sufficiently rested. It will make sure you\u2019re ready for each working day. It\u2019ll help you to get everything done. Sure, it can be tempting to hit snooze until nine and then open your laptop up and log in while you\u2019re still in bed. But it\u2019ll be much better for you – and you\u2019ll find yourself being much more productive – if you still get up early, shower, put fresh clothes on and eat something before you\u2019re due to work. You\u2019ll still get a bit more of a lie in due to not having to commute!<\/p>\n
