One day it\u2019s doing its job, the next it\u2019s acting like it\u2019s got one foot in the grave. And somehow, it always happens right before guests are coming over or when the budget\u2019s already tight. Coincidence? Well, probably not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Appliances aren\u2019t designed to last forever, sure, but they should last longer than a TikTok trend. For starters, if you\u2019re <a href=\"https:\/\/www.andysowards.com\/blog\/2016\/dont-buy-cheap\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">buying a cheap<\/a> one, well, you\u2019re basically guaranteed some issues there. Plus, if yours are constantly waving the white flag, it might be time to take a look at some of the habits that are cutting their lives short. Here\u2019s the stuff people do, often without even realizing, that quietly wrecks their machines and their bank accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Buying the Cheapest Appliance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Can You Make Money by Selling Used Appliance Parts on E-Bay?\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZcNZ_AiShM8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" data-load-mode=\"1\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Ah, yes, the classic \u201cit was on sale\u201d justification. There\u2019s nothing wrong with saving money, but rock-bottom pricing usually means rock-bottom everything else, too. Okay, not always, but it can be, especially if it\u2019s some questionable brand you\u2019ve never heard of. Usually, the materials are thinner, the parts are flimsier, and it\u2019ll probably sound like a jet engine every time it runs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The truth is, appliances from brands that have been around the block are usually the safer bet. Those household names come with better engineering, better support, and less chance of it spontaneously quitting after two years. That \u201cdeal\u201d might save a couple of hundred bucks today, but if it conks out halfway through year two, that\u2019s money down the drain and another trip to the appliance store no one asked for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tossing the Warranty like it&#8217;s Junk Mail<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Warranties aren\u2019t glamorous. They\u2019re not shiny, they\u2019re not exciting, and they definitely don\u2019t get a front-row seat in anyone\u2019s mind. But when something breaks (and it will), that warranty is exactly what you mean (and it also means less stress). And not just any warranty, but a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.consumerfinance.gov\/ask-cfpb\/what-is-the-difference-between-a-manufacturers-warranty-and-an-extended-vehicle-warranty-or-service-contract-en-825\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">manufacturer&#8217;s warranty<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;That\u2019s the one who actually knows the ins and outs of the appliance. Those store warranties that cover \u201ceverything\u201d usually involve more red tape than a government building. Manufacturer warranties are way more likely to come through without making you cry into your broken dishwasher. Store warranties hardly do anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Treating the Manual like a Coaster<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Okay, that\u2019s overkill, but just let this sync in for a moment; those little booklets that come with your new appliance? They\u2019re not just there to prop up wobbly table legs. They\u2019re full of important info about how not to destroy your new expensive toy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So many people make this mistake, most people do. But skipping the manual often means missing critical stuff, like what kind of detergent is <em>actually<\/em> safe to use or how often filters need replacing. Ideally, you should just think of the manual as a cheat sheet for getting the most out of your appliance. It\u2019s got the same shape and maybe even the same color. But inside? Well, believe it or not, it\u2019s totally a different story. So, with all that said, third-party parts often wear down faster, mess with performance, and occasionally void the warranty altogether. Yeah, you read that right, if you have a manufacturer&#8217;s warranty and you put a third-party part in it, chances are, it\u2019s now void.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s exactly why going with something like Whirlpool <a href=\"https:\/\/www.appliancepartspros.com\/whirlpool-parts.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">OEM parts<\/a> is so important. Well, if you have a Whirlpool appliance, of course. So, these are the parts that were made for the machine, not kind-of-sort-of similar parts that hope for the best. But just think about it this way: using OEM means fewer problems, less weird behavior, and no frustrated technician telling you it was the wrong part all along.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ignoring Weird Noises and Hoping they Just Go Away<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If your appliance starts making sounds that belong in a horror film, something like thuds, screeches, humming like it&#8217;s summoning spirits, that\u2019s not just a quirk. It\u2019s a cry for help. Yeah, for some reason people tend to want to ignore this whole thing, but there\u2019s no reason to ignore it. Appliances rarely just give up without warning. Those strange noises? They\u2019re red flags. A clicking fridge fan or a groaning washing machine might still <em>work<\/em> for a bit, but the longer it&#8217;s ignored, the more damage it&#8217;s quietly doing behind the scenes. Besides, waiting it out doesn\u2019t magically fix anything.
