When you’re a busy entrepreneur, your first love is often your business, but unless you want it to be your only love, you are going to have to put some effort into dating sooner or later!
Dating when you already have a million and one things to do, from completing your accounts to meeting clients, can seem pretty daunting, but I have put together some tips to help make the process as simple as possible for you when the time comes to put yourself out there.
Schedule it
It might seem a bit clinical, but as a busy entrepreneur, unless you schedule a time to work on dating, then it will probably never happen. As well as scheduling any actual dates you are able to get, this also means scheduling time to talk to people on chat lines or dating apps or mingle with them in bars if you prefer the low-tech options because, after all, if you don’t make time for this, you aren’t going to get many dates!
Set goals
Just like you make goals for your business, it may be a good idea to set goals for your dating life too. For example, you could aim to go on five dates a month or match with at least 3 people a week – only you will know which goals work best for you – and just by setting out your intentions, you are more likely to actually push yourself and make things happen.
Multi-task
These days, when so much dating is done online or via phone, it is perfectly fine to fit in talking to date while you’re traveling to a business meeting or when you are doing basic admin work that doesn’t need too much attention. Sure, you should give them your full attention as often as you can, but as a busy entrepreneur, you need to use any opportunity you can find to interact with potential new partners.
Make an effort to leave work behind
Yes, you’re a busy entrepreneur, and sometimes that means that you absolutely cannot get away from the office, but if you’re dating someone who understands this, it’s important that you pay them back for that understanding by actually making time for them on a regular basis, and not letting them down every time you have a slight issue at work. Learn to delegate and you will have a much more successful love life, as a result, guaranteed.
Don’t talk shop
Of course, it’s fine to talk about your day and what you do for a living, but unless your dates are in the same business as you, chances are they will not want to heat the minutiae of how you found a cheaper supplier or where in the merger process your company is. If you don’t have any other interests, now would be a great time to reevaluate, stop letting your business rule your whole life, and try out a hobby or two.
If you’re serious about finding someone, you can make it happen, even if you are a busy entrepreneur, but you will need to work at it!
