50+ Epic Motivational And Demotivational Posters

Motivation. We all struggle with it as some point – certain things really do help, or hurt it. Some of these things Are posters!! Today we have some completely epic and motivational posters – and some hilarious de-motivational posters (for fun lol). There are so many posters that are created to inspire – you usually see them in school classrooms, or in offices (we have some facebook office stuff below that is awesome) but these posters are way cooler than the old standard SUCCESS posters lol.

What is Motivation?

Do you know exactly what motivation is? According to the wikipedia…

Motivation is a term that refers to a process that elicits, controls, and sustains certain behaviors. Motivation is a group of phenomena which affect the nature of an individual’s behavior, the strength of the behavior, and the persistence of the behavior. For instance: An individual has not eaten, he or she feels hungry, as a response he or she eats and diminishes feelings of hunger. There are many approaches to motivation: physiological, behavioural, cognitive, and social. It’s the crucial element in setting and attaining goals—and research shows you can influence your own levels of motivation and self-control. According to various theories, motivation may be rooted in a basic need to minimize physical pain and maximize pleasure, or it may include specific needs such as eating and resting, or a desired object, goal, state of being, ideal, or it may be attributed to less-apparent reasons such as altruism, selfishness, morality, or avoiding mortality.

At one time, employees were considered just another input into the production of goods and services. But this changed after the Hawthorne Studies. The Hawthorne studies were conducted by Elton Mayo at Hawthorne Plant in the 1920s. The researchers were studying the effect of different working environments on productivity. They used lighting as an experimental variable (the effect of bright lighting and dull lighting). Initially they noticed that employees were working harder but it was not because of the lighting. They concluded that productivity increased due to attention that the workers got from the research team and not because of changes to the experimental variable. Hawthorne studies found that employees are not motivated solely by money but motivation is linked to employee behaviour and their attitudes. The Hawthorne Studies began the human relations approach to management, so the needs and motivation of employees became the primary focus of managers.

Hopefully you guys will get inspired by either the posters themselves, or the designs! I hope that you get motivated on your current projects – or possibly get inspired to create your own motivational posters to plaster all over your walls :). Whatever you are working on I hope that you enjoy!!

Facebook Posters – The Hacker Way

“The Hacker Way is an approach to building that involves continuous improvement and iteration. Hackers believe that something can always be better, and that nothing is ever complete. They just have to go fix it —often in the face of people who say it’s impossible or are content with the status quo.”
-Mark Zuckerberg

I love these posters, they were made at Facebook and mounted on the walls there – motivating everyone inside the office walls during their many campaigns and hackathons. Truly Creative, Inspirational & Motivating (not to mention just badass) to any designer & developer that has been working diligently on a project. This is just a glimpse at some of the awesome culture & atmosphere over at the facebook headquarters.

Such an epic poster for 1337 hax0r hackathons. DOING IT CORRECTLY.

This is the “Wall” at facebook, awesome how this started, with a blank canvas and a bucket of markers… then the creativity took over… (yes I know this isn’t a “poster” but its a badass wall, deal with it!)

Demotivational Posters

Feeling good? Motivated? Ready to conquer the world? Good lets change that and make you feel very sad hahaha. (this is fun) Here are some awesome posters that are really more hilarious, and offensive, than demotivational, but they are definitely not POSITIVE by any means. Definitely a pessimist view of everything is seen in these posters, I would like to hang some of these up haha. (also some of these are wallpapers – but still, its the image that counts, you could probably easily turn it into a poster too – I challenge you designers to create some of these as posters).
